DisplaySplit/Guide/Screen sharing

How to share half
of an ultrawide

Share your whole ultrawide in a call and the other side gets a thin strip they can't read. Here is how to share just part of it in Teams, Zoom, Meet, Discord and OBS.

A 5120 × 1440 panel is as wide as two monitors and as tall as one. Share all of it and every viewer's screen shrinks it to fit their own, so text ends up a third of its size with black bars above and below. With two monitors you would simply share one of them. With one ultrawide, Windows has only one screen to offer, so call apps have only one to list.

Ways to share part of the panel

Share a single windowTeams · Zoom · Meet · Discord
Every call app can share one application window instead of the screen.
Where it stops: viewers see only that window. Switch to another app, open a menu or drag something in from elsewhere and they don't see it, so demos and walkthroughs keep breaking.
Share a portion of the screenZoom
Zoom's desktop app has a portion-of-screen option under the Advanced tab of its share dialog. You drag a frame over the area to share.
Where it stops: it's Zoom only (Teams has no equivalent), the frame has to be placed by hand every time, and windows don't snap to it.
Crop it in OBSFree · more setup
Capture the display in OBS, crop it to one side, and send that into the call through OBS's virtual camera.
Where it stops: it arrives as a webcam, not a screen share, so it is compressed like video and the call app's screen-sharing features don't apply. It also has to be running for every call.
Split the displayDisplaySplit · $29 once
With the panel split, Windows has two screens, so every call app lists two. Pick the one you want and share it like any monitor, at a normal 16:9 shape.
What changes: windows you move onto the shared side appear, windows you keep on the other side stay private, and it works the same in every app, including streaming software that captures a display.

Sharing one side, app by app

Once DisplaySplit is on, each part of your ultrawide appears as its own screen in these dialogs:

Microsoft Teams

Press Share in the meeting toolbar. Under Screen you will see two screens instead of one. Choose the side you want viewers to see.

Zoom

Press Share Screen. The Basic tab lists Screen 1 and Screen 2. Pick one; you no longer need the portion-of-screen frame.

Google Meet

Choose Present now, then Entire screen. Chrome shows each screen as its own thumbnail.

Discord

Press Share Your Screen and open the Screens tab. Each side of the panel is listed separately.

OBS and streaming

Add a Display Capture source and pick one of the split screens. No crop filter is needed, and a video or browser fullscreened on that side fills the capture exactly.

Good to know

PowerPoint slideshows go fullscreen on one side, so you can present on one screen and keep your notes on the other. Some streaming services with hardware copy protection show black on a split screen; pause the split to watch them.
