The 49-inch G9 models run at 5120 × 1440: exactly two 2560 × 1440 screens wide. That is why so many people buy one to replace a pair of 27-inch monitors, and why it is frustrating when Windows treats it as one giant display. Fullscreen video spans all 49 inches, a maximised browser is a metre wide, and in a call you can only share the whole strip.
Your options on a G9
- Picture-by-pictureMonitor menu · two cables
- Several G9 models have a PBP mode that shows two inputs side by side. Run two cables from your PC, turn PBP on in the monitor's menu, and Windows sees two monitors. Owners of the Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SC) report that it has no PBP mode at all.
- Where it stops: you need two free outputs and a second cable, the split is fixed at half and half, and some of the monitor's features and refresh rates are restricted while PBP is on (check your model's manual). Getting the whole panel back for a game means another trip into the menu.
- Snap layouts and FancyZonesWindows · free
- Windows 11's snap layouts and PowerToys FancyZones divide the G9 into window zones.
- Where it stops: Windows still sees one 5120 × 1440 display, so fullscreen, maximise, screen sharing and the taskbar don't change.
- DisplayFusion monitor splitsPaid · software
- Divides the G9 into sections with their own taskbars, and maximise fills one section.
- Where it stops: the sections aren't displays Windows knows about. DisplayFusion's own help guide says fullscreen video and games can't be kept inside a split, and calls still see one 5120 × 1440 screen.
- DisplaySplitOne cable · $29 once
- Makes Windows see two 2560 × 1440 monitors (or three, or your own proportions) on the cable you already use, and switches back to the full panel by itself when you start a game.
- What changes: fullscreen fills one side, calls share one screen at a normal 16:9 shape, each side gets a taskbar, and Win + Shift + arrow moves a window across.
Layouts that suit a G9
- 50 / 50: two 2560 × 1440 screens, the classic dual-27-inch setup.
- 25 / 50 / 25: a 2560 × 1440 centre with a 1280 × 1440 wing on each side, for chat and notes.
- 60 / 40: a wider main screen for editing or code, with a reference screen beside it.
- Your own: drag the dividers to any proportions.
Gaming on a split G9
The G9 is a gaming monitor, so DisplaySplit has a game mode. List your games once; while one is running, the split steps aside and the game gets the full 5120 × 1440 panel with its full refresh rate, G-Sync and HDR. When you close the game, the split comes back.
While the panel is split, G-Sync and HDR are unavailable on the split screens and there is about one frame of added delay. Desktop work doesn't notice; that's what game mode is for. DisplaySplit was built and tested on a 49-inch Odyssey G9.
